Big Ass Fans Haiku SenseMe Smart Ceiling Fan

The next frontier in connected home appliances could be ceiling fans. Well, not could be, it is—at least where Lexington, KY-based Big Ass Fans is concerned.

The Haiku with SenseME technology is fully programmable, can tell when you come and go, and can wake you up with light in the morning or simulate occupancy while you’re on vacation. It features built-in Wi-Fi, motion detection, and heat and humidity sensors, and lets you control the action with your iOS device (an Android app will come at some point). Not only is the fan smart, it’s also strong: The blades are made out of compressed bamboo, virtually as strong as flexible steel, says the company. Look for the Haiku to blow your way in July with prices around $1,000. [Purchase]
