BALMUDA Works Their Design Magic On A Coffeemaker With The ‘Brew’

We’re used to seeing Japanese product design company BALMUDA transform everyday household appliances like toaster ovens and microwaves into gorgeous works of art, but their latest creation may be the company’s most impressive yet.

BALMUDA has unveiled The Brew, a new coffeemaker in the brand’s distinct minimalist style that also incorporates some pretty nifty tech. The beautiful design, while simple, adds visual interest via an open drip layout and an old-school orange operating light. It’s also a treat for the ears, with an especially euphonious array of chimes that subtly announces the different stages of brewing. Most importantly, The Brew also makes a great cup of coffee, thanks to its patent-pending Clear Brewing method that precisely controls the temperature at every stage of the brewing process. Other innovative features include automatically-measured perfect drips and a bypass pouring system that knows when to add fresh water to the brew in order to avoid extracting impurities from the beans that can occur when overpouring. The Brew is only available from BALMUDA Japan at the moment, where it retails for ¥59,400 (~$540).
