BAC Mono Single Seat Race Car
“It’s not always about the horsepower,” sounds like one of those clichéd cop outs; the equivalent of “It’s the motion of the ocean,” for the guy with the Prius. But actually, it’s true.
The BAC Mono ($130,000) proves it, because while its mid-mounted naturally aspirated 2.3-liter Cosworth engine produces 280 hp, you’d be foolish to think that’s the complete story. Check the weight, just 1,190 lbs, and you begin to realize just what kind of magic this single-seat ride is capable of. With a power-to-weight ratio that bests the Bugatti Veyron, BAC says the Mono does 0 to 60 mph in a breathtaking 2.8 seconds, 0 to 100 mph in 6.7 seconds, with a top speed of 170 mph. All of the Mono’s mechanical components come from established motorsport companies, and the kicker? It’s street legal. Watch the video below. [Purchase]
