As one automotive upstart after another hops on for a ride aboard the electric hypercar bandwagon, it certainly makes one wonder how many of these vehicles will actually come to fruition. After all, they tend to come on the wings of some bold claims, often promising dizzying power outputs, instantaneous acceleration, and otherworldly designs. Automobili Estrema’s Fulminea is a case in point, and yet, we can’t help but love it.
For instance, the Italian automaker expects the vehicle to produce a combined 2,040hp courtesy of its four electric motors, a figure that translates to a 2-second 0-62mph time and a 10-second 0-200mph time. What’s more, the Fulminea will be the first production car to make use of a unique hybrid battery setup that’s comprised of both ultra-capacitors as well as solid-state cells. In practice, this means that it’ll make for some pretty game-changing performance, weighing in around 300kg (661lbs), boasting a 500Wh/kg energy density, and charging from 10-80 percent in less than 15 minutes. Oh, and if that wasn’t enough, Estrema estimates that the Fulminea will offer some 323 miles of range. Limited to just 61 examples, it’s expected to hit the market in late 2023.
