Tom Hanks has a penchant for choosing adventurous roles. This includes (but is absolutely not limited to) his appearances in Saving Private Ryan, Apollo 13, Cast Away, and Cloud Atlas. But, if the custom 1980 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser he’s put up for auction is any indication, he also enjoys adventure in his day-to-day life.
This restomod was actually personally commissioned by the famed actor, including an engine upgrade to a 2000 GM L35 4.3-litre Vortec V6 engine good for 180 horsepower and mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Of course, that’s just one of the many upgrades and updates. Other details include an immaculate interior marked by Porsche high-back seats (although the originals are also included in the sale), an old-school Sony AM/FM cassette player, a full-sized roof rack, power brakes, Old Man Emu shocks, and the actor’s John Hancock on the glove box. As good on the road as it is off, Tom Hanks’ Toyota Land Cruiser is expected to go between $75,000 and $125,000 at Bonhams Quail Lodge auction.
