Original 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing

The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing is one of the best cars of all time. That’s not up for debate; it’s a fact corroborated by classic car collectors and aficionados everywhere. Unfortunately, their rarity is as extreme as their beauty. But none, perhaps, are as rare as this unrestored example from 1955.

Not only is this Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing practically pristine, but it only has a little over 16,000 miles on the odometer. And every one of those miles was put on it by a single family – as it was taken from the factory floor to its original owner and then handed down to his son. Even better, this is a completely unique vehicle, because it was the only one ever made (by the factory) in British Racing Green. We talk a lot about “owning a piece of history” when it comes to classic cars, but this one takes the cake. And that’s why Gooding & Co. expect for it to go for $1,000,000+ when it hits the auction block at Pebble Beach in August of this year.
