For fanatics everywhere, the 1980s were the golden years of rally racing. And that’s due almost exclusively to the Group B races at that time. They were wild, fast, and dangerous – which spelled a whole bunch of excitement. While that era has long since ended, some of the cars that survived the races still pop up every so often, much to the excitement of collectors. For instance, Bonhams just put 7 of the best and rarest Group B rally cars up for auction.
It’s hard to hone in on any one car in this set that stands out from the rest, as they are all impressive in their own way. But some of the highlights include a 1986 Ford RS200 Evolution (one of only 24 ever built), a 1985 Audi Sport Quattro S1 (a dead-ringer for the one that won the Pike’s Peak hill climb), and a 1983 Lancia Rally 037 Stradale (the last rear-wheel drive car to win the World Rally Championship. There’s even a 975 Lancia Stratos HF Stradale that has less than 8,000 miles on the odometer. Unfortunately, the entire collection has already sold, so if you’re hoping to get into one of these amazing cars, you’ll have to hunt down their respective owners.
