Amphibious cars tend to mostly live in the realm of science-fiction, used by the likes of James Bond and other fictional characters, but a handful do actually exist in real life. And there aren’t any better than the Panther, the world’s fastest water car — especially one that’s been improved by Prodrive.
Up for auction is a 2017 WaterCar Panther Prodrive. The car, which resembles a Jeep Wrangler, is able to transform into a jetdrive-powered speedboat in around ten seconds with the push of a button. It features a rear-mounted 3.7L Honda SOHC V6 with VTEC that puts out 305 hp and 274 lb.-ft. of torque. The engine powers the rear wheels via a four-speed manual gearbox on land and is capable of an 80 mph top speed, while on the water the vehicle can hit 44 mph thanks to the engine’s power takeoff jetdrive setup. The car is also outfitted with a number of upgrades to make it IVA compliant and road-legal, including extensive work to the brakes as well as cosmetic upgrades to the dashboard and cabin trim. This 2017 WaterCar Panther Prodrive has just 514 miles and is up for auction now through Collecting Cars, where bidding is currently at £21,250 (~$29,450).
