When someone describes an “off-road 4×4” or “off-grid overlander,” it’s rare to think of Lexus. It’s true that the automotive manufacturer’s luxurious urban vehicles aren’t the most capable when it comes to adventurous outings, but the owner of this 2005 Lexus LX470 felt otherwise — proving that stereotypes aren’t always to be taken as gospel.
To give Lexus’ traditionally-designed LX470 a much more formidable set of traits, the current owner sent the vehicle to a renowned Toyota master technician, where it was gifted with a RadFlo 2.5″ lift kit, Dissent Offroad bumpers, remote-reservoir shocks, a hot water system, and a roof-mounted Alu-Cab tent, giving it a completely different persona. Below its well-outfitted exterior is where the real magic happens. The LX470’s 4.7-liter 2UZ-FE V8 engine has been paired with a five-speed automatic transmission and two-speed transfer case, producing around 235 horsepower, overall. This, combined with the overlander’s Marlin Crawler low-gear set, functional FrontRunner suite, and re-geared differentials, ensures that the Lexus can take on virtually any terrain you can throw at it. We’ve just skimmed the surface of this well-equipped monster, so head over to Bring A Trailer, where it’s currently listed for auction at $35,000, for a deeper dive.
