If you were to pick a Toyota Land Cruiser year model from across the decades at random, you’d end up with a pretty spectacular starter off-roader. But if you really want to hit the trails in comfort and convenience, a few custom upgrades are necessary. Of course, you could just skip the middle man and drive off into the sunset aboard this 1991 Toyota Land Cruiser HDJ81.
Imported from Japan to Houston, Texas three years ago, this off-road SUV is powered by a 4.2-liter turbodiesel straight-six mated to a four-speed transmission and three locking differentials. It’s also been fully-kitted for 4×4 adventuring with a lift kit and upgraded suspension, a front-end winch, off-road lights, rocker protection, a roof rack with a storage box, pull-out camping drawers with a camp stove and sleeping platform, and even an upgraded touchscreen stereo system with a backup camera. It even comes with its own roll cage, although it hasn’t been installed. Best of all, it can be yours, so long as you beat the current $20,000 bid.
