Before we had the ATV, we had the ATC. Not familiar? If you were around in the 1970s and 80s you would be. They were practically everywhere, but disappeared after 1987 when manufacturers all decided they were too unsafe. Thankfully though, there are still some around like this 1984 Honda ATC70 now being put up for auction.
This incredibly well restored ATC70 features a classic red and an old school Honda logo across the fuel tank and the back end right above the knobby off-road tires. When these were still in production they featured either a small 72cc air cooled 4 stroke single cylinder engine, or a larger 200cc engine. In retrospect, outfitting this vehicle with a larger displacement turned out to be a bit of a mistake. Riders in alarming numbers kept getting seriously injured or killed while operating these ATCs. While it is hard not to feel a little bit of regret knowing that these won’t be made again, it is nice to know that we’re all a little safer with them out of production, and that enthusiasts and collectors like the one auctioning this ATC off have managed to preserve the remaining bunch.
