In the world of off-roading, there has been a pretty wide spectrum of vehicle types available for purchase. From dirt bikes to 6×6 tanks, it seems like there’s one out there for everyone. And if you happen to be the type of madman who wants to take their UTV out on the lake, well then there’s this 1983 TAG Croco 4×4 amphibious vehicle that’s headed to auction.
While this old-school off-roader isn’t exactly a powerhouse, clocking in with just 32 horsepower and a top speed of 35 mph, it is powered by a unique NSU Wankel rotary engine housed under the passenger seat. To pair with that power plant, the Croco also features six seats across its segmented body — joined at the middle by a rotating central axis, which actually allows it to take on rockier terrain than it might otherwise manage with a more traditional suspension system. And while it can be driven on water, it does so via the rotation of its buoyant all-terrain tires, making this a bit more of a pleasure cruiser than a speedboat. Set to hit Artcurial’s auction block in Paris on February 7th, this former Forest Service amphibious UTV is expected to sell for $28,000 or more.
