There are few things in this world quite as wonderful as a classic Porsche automobile. But one with a racing pedigree and a unique history is certainly all the more enticing. And that’s why we’re excited to see this 1979 Porsche 935 headed to the auction block.

An exclusive built-to-order vehicle for Otis Chandler, publisher of the Los Angeles Times and noted Porsche enthusiast, this was one of the very last 935s ever made for a customer. But even without his ownership, this car would be something special. A race-ready variant of the RSR 2.1 Turbo, this race track monster boasts a fully-independent coil-spring suspension, aerodynamic fiberglass bodywork, and an ANDIAL workshop specially-built 3.0-liter twin-turbo engine (though one of the turbos has since been removed to meet Porsche’s original specs). Along with its full history, correspondence, and historical photographs, this magnificent racing machine is expected to sell for between $2.5-$3 million.

Purchase: $2,550,000+
