With this year’s Tokyo Auto Salon just around the corner, we’re practically foaming at the mouth to see what the convention has in store. Thankfully, some truly magnificent stuff has already been unveiled — which is keeping us somewhat sated. For instance, during the show, this practically-untouched 1973 Nissan Skyline 2000 GT-R will be hitting the auction block.
While many folks are quite partial to the later styling of the Nissan Skyline, we’ve always been fans of the earlier pony car-inspired versions. This particular one is even more special due to its extreme rarity. Known as a “Kenmeri” or “Ken & Mary” — named for the young couple who appeared in a series of popular television ads that ran in Japan back in the 1970s — only 197 of these cars were made (and only seven in red). What’s even more impressive, however, is that this one is all-original (with only minor paint touch-ups), in working condition, and has under 10,000 miles on the odometer. This holy grail of classic JDM cars is expected to go for $695,000-$972,000.
