Carroll Shelby is one of the greatest vehicle designers of all time. Period. And every single car he got his hands on was special in its own unique way. Apparently, some of them are even more unique than other, as evidenced by this 1963 Shelby 289 Cobra “CSX 20175” that was signed by the man himself. And it’s headed to auction.
Though the chassis of this beautiful ride is very much in the style of a British racing roadster, it’s actually powered by American muscle – more specifically, a Ford short-stroke V8. At the time of its creation, this Cobra would’ve rolled off the lot with 271 horsepower and 312 foot-pounds of torque, giving it the ability to hit 139 mph and go 0-60 in 5.3 seconds – which are very impressive numbers for its time. While those figures may have waned a bit with age, it’s more than made up for by the car’s sleek black facade with subtle brown leather interior accents and a very large Carroll Shelby signature on the door to the glove box. This classic collector vehicle is set to go to auction at RM Sotheby’s August 2017 auction in Monterey, California.
