Say what you will about Mercedes-Benz as a company (we know not everyone is a fan), but there is no denying the cultural automotive impact of their 300 SL Gullwing. In all honesty, it might actually be the most beautiful car ever made. So when one comes around to auction, we’re always enthralled by the prospect. With this one, a 1954 that is being auctioned off by RM Southeby’s, we’re especially excited. And it’s easy to see why.

In what can only be described as immaculate condition, this automotive classic is one of the most beautiful examples we’ve ever seen. As it should be – for this one was owned by a Gullwing Group chapter president. One of just 167 original examples, this vehicle features an inline 6-cylinder engine, 240 horsepower (thanks to the inclusion of electronic fuel injection), had a chassis restoration in 2007, and went through an engine rebuild in 2009. And, along with a few engine upgrades, it also has a custom leather interior that pairs beautifully with the deep blue paint job. If you want this beauty, however, you’ll have to be prepared to drop a literal fortune on it, as the bidding starts at $1.2 million. [Purchase]
