With work routinely featured in some of the world’s most elite home, living, and architectural books, magazines, and websites, FormaFatal is a Czech architecture firm with a serious knack for blending modern structural designs into their surrounding landscape. And, though it’s based in the Czech Republic, the highly awarded studio has been called on to design architectural works all over the world, including jobs in France, Qatar, Sri Lanka, Germany, and Costa Rica, the latter of which is home to FF’s latest — and quite possibly most impressive — residential project yet, the Atelier Villa.
The 85.3’ building is built into the side of a hill, and features a wood-clad hill-facing side, opposite a deck that looks out onto the Pacific Ocean and coast. Located only a stone’s throw from popular surf town, Puntarenas, the deck-side of the vacation house is adorned in molted and perforated aluminum siding that folds up to reveal the picturesque surrounding scenery. There’s also an infinity pool that stretches from inside the house to the outward-facing deck, and a ladder leading up to the dwelling’s living roof.
