Arc’teryx’s Norvan SL (short for “Superlight”) was already one of the best ultralight minimalist packable jackets on the market. But, as they’re a brand known for innovation, the Canadian outfitters knew they couldn’t simply rest on their laurels. So they improved it and rereleased it as the Norvan SL Insulated Hoody.
A lot of the things that made the original jacket great are back in this new edition — including its minimalist silhouette and ability to pack down into an integrated travel bag. It’s also equipped with a DWR finish and GORE-TEX Shakedry technology for exceptional waterproofing. But this one also now has some extra warmth thanks to Coreloft Compact 40 insulation — making this a true, versatile 3-season jacket. It’s a bit heavier than its 4.2-ounce predecessor, due to the added insulation, but at 9.5 ounces it’s still exceptionally lightweight and perfect for high-intensity outdoor activities, as well as travel.
