Alongside the unveiling of Apple’s latest iPhone models, the Cupertino-based company also used the press conference to debut a new MagSafe charging and accessory system that’s exclusively available on the new iPhone 12 (and iPhone 12 mini).
Like Apple’s MagSafe computer chargers, this hardware can replenish battery life at an astounding rate, though the new iPhone-specific MagSafe chargers harness the power of wireless Qi charging, helped along via the use of internal magnets for better coupling. Furthermore, the iPhone’s MagSafe system can also accommodate a myriad of magnetic accessories such as phone covers or magnetically-attached wallets and cardholders. Apple will be producing these products, though the company also revealed it will be partnering with third party outfits such as Belkin on other forthcoming MagSafe offerings. Capable of charging speeds as fast as 15W, the MagSafe iPhone 12 charger is available for $39, while compatible cases carry an MSRP of $49, and a leather cardholder is priced at $59.
