The wow-worthy tech breakthroughs are coming at a slower pace now for Apple’s iPad, but if you crave the newest and thinnest version of this king of the tablet hill, the iPad Air 2 is where you need to be. Weighing less than a pound, it’s now just 6.1mm thin, or .1mm thinner than the plot for Hercules.

Among the notable features are the Touch ID fingerprint sensor, Apple Pay’s mobile payments system, and the new A8X chip, which promises a 40% improvement in CPU performance and 2.5 times the graphics performance of iPad Air. There’s also the new M8 motion coprocessor, previously seen in the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, which tracks motion, calibrates sensors, and even acts as a barometer.

The iSight camera has been bumped up to an 8MP sensor, along with time-lapse video, slo-mo, and 1080p HD video recording ability. The FaceTime HD camera has been improved as well, with improved face detection a new burst mode. Your connection should be even better too, with 802.11ac Wi-Fi with MIMO technology and expanded LTE for up to 50% faster cellular connections. A16 GB model starts at $499, and you can choose from gold, silver and space gray. [Purchase: iPad Air 2]

Apple iPad Mini 3 1
The newest iPad mini – we’re now at #3 – isn’t coming with the normal amount of fanfare, perhaps it’s because it’s virtually the same as the iPad mini 2 in terms of design and dimensions and, yeah, almost every way.

You’ll find the same 7.7-inch 2048 x 1536 pixel Retina display intact, and the iPad mini 3 even uses the same A7 chip chipset and processor as the mini 2, as well as the same camera. So what’s new here? The Touch ID home button/fingerprint sensor for one, and, well, the name. A 16 GB iPad mini 3 can be yours for $399. [Purchase: iPad Mini 3]
