While the state-of-the-art graphics and gameplay offered by modern next-gen consoles have objectively taken gaming to new heights, there’s something undeniably appealing about returning to the console classics of our childhoods and adolescents. And the vintage video game gurus over at Analogue are now making retro gaming in the modern world more accessible than ever with the introduction of the company’s Duo console.
Touted as the “Higher Energy Analogue System,” the Duo features both cartridge and CD ROM drives as well as an Altera Cyclone V FPGA that was developed over thousands of hours. This advanced piece of hardware enables the Duo to be compatible with the vast majority of NEC systems and video game titles, including TurboGrafx-16, PC Engine, SuperGrafx, TurboGrafx CD, PC Engine CD-ROM, and Super Arcade CD-ROM. Sold in black or grey, the Duo offers 1080P resolution through an HDMI port connection, is paired with USB-wired or Bluetooth-enabled wireless 8BitDo controllers, and is entirely free of lag and signal degradation. Priced at $199, the Analogue Duo is available for preorder now, with an official launch scheduled for 2021.
