Are you ready to meet the man that just made your sandwich better? The guys at Hypebeast recently spent some quality time with David Tran, CEO and founder of Huy Fong Foods, the company that makes Sriracha hot chili sauce, and the dude’s an interesting cat.
As we hear Tran tell his story, the 3:22 video shows the entire Sriracha-making process, from the picking of the chilies to washing to the preserving them in vinegar to the automated bottling. Tran says he named his company after the boat that took him out of Vietnam in 1978. He founded the company in 1980, hand packing the hot sauce by spoon. Since the perfect chilies are only picked once a year, each batch is put into a boatload of barrels, yielding a years’ worth.
