This Desktop Race Car Model Reflects F1’s New 2022 Design Regulations

While most of the Amalgam Collection comprises incredibly detailed scale replicas with eye-watering five-figure price tags, the multi-national model specialist also has a range of more affordable offerings it calls ‘miniature sculptures.’ Designed to distill automotive design down to its very essence, each one sports a hand-cast construction beneath a premium mirrored finish. They’re truly something else.

For the latest addition to its series of miniatures, Amalgam has crafted a 4-inch collector’s piece reflecting the new Formula 1 race regulations that will take effect come 2022. Penned by Remco de Reus, it’s based on the Concept 2022 Car developed and supplied by the Formula 1 Group. As such, it’s been given updated front and rear wings, with the former being smaller and more simplified and the latter being split into upper and lower elements. But that’s not all: for the first time since 1982, F1 cars will also be able to be fitted with underfloor ground effects — an addition set to dramatically increase the amount of available downforce. And when you consider that they’ll also feature a new integrated HALO cockpit and some lower-profile tires, the future of Formula 1 certainly looks to be promising. It’s available for $189. including a booklet explaining the new rules.
