Alpha Makes Its Retro ACE EV Rally-Ready With A Roof Rack & Bigger Tires

Although most people will fool themselves into false security with the belief that lightning can’t strike twice, Alpha Motors is one brand that begs to differ. Having shocked the auto world with the unveiling of its retro-inspired EV late last year, the California-based startup is already back for more.

Based on the ACE platform, it’s a fully-electric rally car they’re calling the JAX CUV (Junior All-terrain Crossover). Available in either single-motor FWD or dual-motor AWD configurations and powered by a 75Kwh lithium-ion battery, it’ll do 0-60mph in 6.5s with a towing capacity of 1,850lbs and an expected range topping out around 250 miles. But in order to improve its all-terrain chops, Alpha had to completely rework the exterior dimensions, stretching it by 15 inches and raising it by seven inches to fit that extra chunky rubber. What’s more, it’s been given wider wheel arches, front and rear bash guards, and a roof rack complete with daytime running lights. And when you consider that it comes with room for four and the same digitally-interfaced interior as the ACE, the JAX makes for a promising start to a future of electric off-roading. It’s available for pre-order from $38,000.
