Air Jordan V ‘Fresh Prince’ Edition
The Air Jordan V is one of the most iconic shoes ever released, let alone among the Jordan collection. The legendary silhouette — designed by the equally legendary Tinker Hatfield — was released February 1990. The same year, the (almost) equally legendary sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, starring Will Smith, debuted. In celebration of that historical connection, Nike has released the Air Jordan V Fresh Prince Edition, and there are plenty of features that make these retro kicks special.
West Philadelphia born and raised, Will Smith spent many an episode of The Fresh Prince wearing sweet Jordan kicks. Most notable in his closet were the “Grape” colored Air Jordan Vs, which he can be seen rocking in the show’s legendary intro. These special-edition retro renovations resuscitate those iconic shoes, complete with additional adornments like an insole with the words “Air Jordan” in the recognizable Graffiti-font of the show’s title screen and a laceless construction that essentially makes these slip-ons. Fans of the ’90s should love these kicks, which go on sale September 25 at 10 a.m. Just a guess — there will probably be a line.
