Finally, the future is here. Well, near. At least California-based Aerofex says it is regarding its Star Wars-esque Aero-X Hoverbike, a gravity-defying vehicle that uses carbon fiber rotors instead of wheels to carry two people up to 10 feet above the ground while going as fast as 42 mph.
The Aero-X will reportedly be able to takeoff and land vertically; that means no runway will be necessary. Right now the craft itself is about 14.8’ long and 6.8’ wide, weighing in at about 785 pounds, with the ability to handle up to 310 pounds onboard. Aerofex says it will be able to run for about 75 minutes on a full tank of fuel, and it will be about as easy to handle as a motorcycle, with a weekend of training being all you need. The company is taking refundable deposits right now of $5,000, with the expected cost at around $85,000 when it launches in 2017. Watch the video below. [Purchase]
