Named after the legendary Southern California-born tennis hall-of-famer and former Wimbledon, US Open, and Grand Slam champion, Adidas’ Stan Smith model is one of the German brand’s most iconic shoes of all time. And despite first being released (as the “Stan Smith”) in 1971, the tennis shoe remains an integral member of the three stripes company’s lineup, as well as one of its strongest consistent sellers. The Stan Smiths have received a myriad of tweaks and updates over its nearly half-century in production, though recent world events have prompted Adidas to release a new around-the-house version of the shoe with a new slip-on, mule variant.
The Stan Smith Slip-On retains the original model’s lace closure, leather construction, and silhouette for the first three-quarters of the shoe, while the back and heel have been completely revised, transforming the classic sneaker into a streetwear-inspired piece of loungewear. Unfortunately, the interior of the shoe doesn’t appear to have been altered to be made more breathable. Sold in men’s sizes 7 to 13, the Stan Smith mules are, thus far, being offered in monochrome white or yellow colorways. Available now, pricing for the Adidas Stan Smith Slip-On Shoes has been set at $70.
