From chukka-styled casual boots to sock-like city shoes, the Adidas NMD_R1 has seen all sorts of style variations since its debut in 2015. It’s a silhouette with a timeless simplicity that lends itself perfectly to progress, and with each iteration, we see just how versatile the design can be. Having already proven the shoe’s prowess on the streets, this time, Adidas is taking things to the trail.
Dubbed the NMD_R1 Trail GORE-TEX, the latest offering to come from the three stripes is an off-road-ready version of the venerable NMD_R1. And while Adidas has already given the shoe a trail-ready makeover once before, it was nothing like this. For starters, the knit upper has been treated to a water-repellent coating in order to improve its all-terrain abilities. Wrapped in a TPU guard for mud proofing and lined with GORE-TEX for added element resistance, the result is a pair of shoes that’ll keep your feet feeling fresh no matter how gnarly the weather gets. And when you consider that they come with a BOOST midsole and a Continental rubber outsole, you can run assured knowing that you’ll have maximum response and confident grip in every step. They’re available now for ¥20,900 or about $200.
