Since its debut in 1979, the Adidas Copa has been worn by some of soccer’s biggest names, including the likes of Diego Maradona, David Beckham, and Zinedine Zidane (and those are just a few). It’s a classic case of less is more, for even despite the cleat’s star-studded lineup, the design has stayed largely the same over course of its 40-plus year history. That is — at least until now.
Meet the COPA SENSE+, the Three Stripes’ latest innovative cleat offering that was designed to maximize the wearer’s on-field ball feel. In practice, this means that it features something Adidas is calling SENSEPODS — a set of anatomically-oriented foam pieces — inside the heel counter to eliminate frustrating foot slippage and create a more direct cleat connection. And that’s not all — the COPA SENSE+ has also been fitted with TOUCHPODS in high-contact areas in order to reduce rebound upon the ball’s impact. Finished off with SOFTSTUDS for a more flexible forefoot and FUSIONSKIN for a locked-down fit, this iteration of the Copa looks to be the best one yet. It’s available now for $275.
