Let’s face it, Ferraris are historically the most beautiful, if not most highly coveted, automobiles on the planet. With models that range from the legendary Dino 246 from the late ‘60s and early ‘70s to the more recent heritage-inspired Monza, the Italian marque has been blessing us with a delicious design language and highly-impressive performance for as long as we can remember. However, by the time many of us have the bankroll to afford one of these rides, their practicality has begun to wane and we instead opt for something a bit more accommodating for a family-centric lifestyle.
Now we can have our cake and eat it too with the brand-new Ferrari Purosangue, the company’s first-ever four-seater, four-door vehicle in its 75-year history. The luxury quasi-crossover SUV follows in the footsteps of Ferrari’s Italian compatriot Lamborghini, which debuted the Urus back in 2017. Unlike most SUVs, the Purosangue only features two rear seats, and the exterior sports Maranello-like aerodynamics that’s given the Prancing Horse its iconic reputation. After you open the suicide doors, you’ll notice a cockpit inspired by the SF90 Stradale as well as an interior that’s as spacious as it is sporty. Built from carbon fiber, the roof also features a large glass window that extends to the front windshield.
Under the hood is a naturally-aspirated 6.5L V12 engine capable of putting out 715hp and sending the car from 0 to 60 in 3.3 seconds. It’s also worth mentioning what the car can do at low revs; the powertrain reaches 80% of its torque at just 2,100rpm. While the Purosangue might be more of a compromise for those wanting both a powerful sports car and a family car, it’s that very blend of the two that makes this new model so unique.
Orders for the Purosangue are currently being taken on Ferrari’s website, with the company eyeing a fourth-quarter release for this year. Configurations start at €390,000 (~$388,801).
