The Speedy 400HP Lotus Emira Is The Marque’s Last Gas-Powered Car Ever

Earlier this year, Lotus shocked the auto world with the announcement of a sports car set to replace both the Evora and the Exige — its first all-new model since 2009. Oh, and if that wasn’t enough, it was also going to be the British automaker’s final petrol-powered vehicle.

And now it’s finally here. As promised, the Emira acts as both a preview of Lotus’s upcoming design language as well as a callback to its internal combustion models of old. In practice, this means that it’ll wear some striking bodywork reminiscent of the Evija, with a lightweight bonded aluminum chassis based on the new-and-improved Sports Car Architecture (SCA). Behind the driver, it’ll feature two engine configurations — a 400hp 3.5L supercharged V6 or a 360hp AMG-sourced 2.0L turbocharged inline-four — with each option taking it to 62mph in less than 4.5s before topping out at 180mph. But here’s the best part: in addition to offering the same thrilling ride as you’d expect from any Lotus, it’ll also come with a thoroughly modern interior, adding things like 12-way adjustable seats, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and even an optional driver’s assistance package. Launching spring 2023, you can learn more at the link below.
