Back in 2013, Bowler introduced a one-make championship intended to hone drivers’ skills for grueling off-road events like Dakar and Silk Way. Based around the original Land Rover Defender, the series proved exceptionally popular due to its low entry cost. Even still, between the car’s redesigned successor and Bowler’s eventual SVU acquisition, it was put on indefinite hold.
And now it’s back. Along with the launch of the 2022 Challenge series, Bowler has also unveiled its all-new Land Rover Defender 90 rally cars. Seeing as they’re intended for everyone from complete novices to seasoned veterans, the output is kept stock, with a 296hp 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder providing power to the wheels. Around the rest of the car, however, Bowler has gone to town, fitting it with a snorkel, aluminum underbody protection, higher-riding Fox suspension, and a set of beefy 18″ Borbet rally wheels. What’s more, the interior has been gutted almost entirely, losing its leather seats for race buckets and gaining column-mounted paddle shifters, a full roll-cage, and various other competition essentials. The best part is, in addition to the car, the £99,500 (~$140,000) sticker price also gets you seven rounds of racing with Bowler support included along the way.
