Late last month, Genesis rocked the auto world with the announcement of the GV60, the brand’s first electric car to be built on the EV-specific E-GMP platform. Clad in eye-melting highlighter yellow and touting futuristic features like monitor-connected side mirrors and shift-by-wire control, it made for a promising first look at what the model might bring. Only one problem: Genesis didn’t grace us with any performance details.
Now that they have, however, we’re even more excited by what the GV60 has up its sleeve. Available with three different drivetrains, it makes anywhere from 225 to 429hp and 258 to 446lb-ft of torque. As the most pedestrian of the lot, the rear-wheel-drive base spec boasts the longest range, with up to 280 miles on a single charge. The top-tier Performance Model, however, is clearly aimed at those wanting a more driver-focused EV, as it comes with a 10-second ‘Boost’ mode that’ll rocket the GV60 to 60mph in just 4.0 seconds flat. Naturally, then, the middling all-wheel-drive option splits the difference, offering 313hp, 446lb-ft of torque, and a pretty respectable 249-mile range. And here’s the thing: along with the powertrains, Genesis has also unveiled more of the GV60’s new tech. Fitted with facial-recognition-based starting and a Drift-mode-equipped electronic limited-slip diff, it even features an ultra-fast charging system that can fill the battery from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes.
It’s worth noting that these numbers are strictly for the Korean market, so there may be some subtle differences by the time the GV60 lands on U.S. shores. At this point, though, they’ll have to do, as Genesis still hasn’t shared any pricing or information regarding its eventual stateside release.
