Back in 2011, Ford killed off its compact Mazda-sourced Ranger pickup in favor of the brawnier Australian-designed T6 platform. Though it was undoubtedly a move for the better, it also meant that the United States wouldn’t see the truck on its shores again for another eight years. Even then, though, the Ranger that arrived was little more than a facelift.
But now the Blue Oval is determined to set things right, teasing an initial look at its forthcoming next-gen Ranger. At this point, admittedly, there’s not much in the way of specs. However, Ford’s Australian and European divisions have shared the below video to give you an idea of the truck’s capabilities. Clad in pre-production camo, it’s shown scrambling over everything from sand and snow to dirt and mud. Ford also makes a clear point of demonstrating the Ranger’s hunger for hoonage, whipping it around in some icy slides and heaving it up and over some rocky ascents. Suffice to say, it’s enough to stoke anyone’s excitement for what the update could bring. Launching in Spring 2022, you’ll be able to catch a full reveal later this year.
