The Ford GT is entering the final year of its production run in 2022, and the Ford Motor Company is bidding it farewell by going back to the car’s beginning — all the way back.
The 2022 Ford GT ‘64 Prototype Heritage Edition pays homage to the very first GT40 prototype that was shown to the public for the first time at the New York International Auto Show on April 3, 1964. The 2022 GT Prototype Edition dons a matching livery to that original prototype car, with a Wimbledon White paint job that’s accented with an Antimatter Blue over-the-roof triple racing stripe. But the color scheme is about as retro as it gets, with the rest of the car heavily featuring exposed carbon fiber practically everywhere you look, including on the 20-inch wheels and front splitter. The carbon continues to the interior, where it’s accompanied by a luxe mix of leather and Alcantara in shades of Ebony and Lightspeed Blue. The car is making its debut at Monterey Car Week alongside the only surviving 1964 prototype, chassis GT/105, in its original livery.
