In 1984 BMW introduced its first-ever M5 model with the E28, a potent four-door kicked along by the same advanced 24V 3.5L engine used in the German brand’s mighty M1. Almost every year since, BMW has updated the M-powered sedan, culminating in the latest iteration of the car with the all-new 2022 M5 CS.
Touted as BMW’s most powerful production model ever, the CS-spec M5’s S63 4.4-liter M TwinPower Turbo V8 generates a whopping 627hp and 553lb-ft of torque. Not only does this translate to a sub-three-second 0-60mph time and a top speed of 190mph, but the M5 CS manages to do so while tipping the scales at a full 230lbs less than the already incredibly capable M5 Competition. Noteworthy standard features include M Carbon ceramic brakes, M xDrive all-wheel drive, an Active M rear differential, two 12.3” HUDs, Dynamic Damper Control, and a plethora of drive modes. The 2022 M5’s kidney grille surround and 20” forged ally wheels are finished in a special Gold Bronze hue, while carbon fiber is used extensively both inside and out for the seat-backs, mirrors, aero trim kit, and engine cover, just to name only a few. Limited to a single model year, the 2022 BMW M5 CS Sedan has been priced at $142,000, with deliveries expected to commence in the second half of 2021.
