After debuting its innovative Link Scooter Concept back in 2017, BMW let the design stew while the auto industry came to grips with its electrified future. Surfacing once again last November under the guise of the Concept Definition CE 04, it offered a preview of what the scooter would look like in its final form whilst confirming that it would eventually come to fruition.
Well, it appears that the third time’s the charm for BMW, because the CE 04 is back, only this time, it’s the real deal. And here’s the thing — unlike a lot of production vehicles, it’s retained the design of its conceptual counterparts. So, in addition to the same angular front end and low-slung side profile, the CE 04 also features the side-mounted storage compartments, the 10.25-inch display, and the integrated USB-C charging ports of the Concept Definition. And now that the scooter’s finally going to be built, BMW has actually given it a drivetrain: an EMP 156 motor setup good for 42hp, 44lb-ft of torque, and a top speed of 75mph. Powered by an 8.9kWh battery, it’ll offer a max range of 80 miles, along with fast-charging that takes it from 20% to 80% in just 45 minutes. The CE 04 will arrive in 2022 starting at $11,795.
