In 2016, Acura released the second generation of its NSX supercar to critical acclaim. And while the mid-engine all-wheel-drive supercar has been an important part of Acura/Honda’s lineup, the Japanese automaker has revealed that it will soon be pulling the plug on the NSX. To give the car one final farewell, Acura is producing 350 up-specced NSX examples known as the “S Type.”
This final edition model borrows numerous elements from Acura’s NSX GT3 Evo IMSA GTD racer, including a stability-bolstering carbon fiber rear diffuser and a pair of turbochargers that bring the hybrid powertrain’s outputs up to 600hp and 492ft-lbs of torque. Other highlights unique to the Type S are Brembo six-pot monoblock calipers, a re-tuned active damper system, exclusive nano paint technology-equipped livery options, multiple new unique forged wheel choices, a revised nine-speed DCT transmission that features a new “Rapid Downshift” mode and offers 50% quicker response during upshifts. and a full aero kit with new front and rear fascia setups, a carbon fiber front lip, side skirts, and a spoiler. Acura is also offering a “Lightweight Package” that includes carbon-ceramic brakes, a carbon engine cover, a carbon interior package, and a total weight reduction of 58lbs. Available now, the 2022 Acura NSX Type S is priced at $169,500, or $182, 500 for the Type S with the Lightweight Package.
