Toyota NZ Unveils An Exclusive Hilux ‘Mako’ Off-Road Performance Pickup

Overseas, the Hilux is already one of Toyota’s most formidable (and popular) pickup platforms. As such, many aftermarket companies have lauded the vehicle as a prime recipient for improved suspension systems, larger tires, and other performance-focused upgrades. Now, Toyota New Zealand is taking the outfit of the Hilux into its own hands with the aptly-named Mako.

The 2021 Toyota Hilux Mako is a limited-edition model that will make its way into the hands of only 250 individual buyers, drawing our interest to it almost immediately. Upon first glance, it seems the off-road-equipped wonder has adopted with a greater ride height in the front and rear for improved object clearance, as well as uprated brakes, BP-50 bypass dampers, and 18-inch Rhino alloy wheels wrapped in a set of dominate 265/60 Maxxis Razr all-terrain tires. The truck’s exterior also sets itself apart from the original Hilux model, thanks to its included LED light bar, expanded fender flares, and underbody plates. Sadly, the pickup doesn’t deviate from the 201-horsepower, 2.8-liter turbodiesel that you’ll find in its baseline models. Find out more on Toyota NZ’s website.
