Lotus Engineering Taps Jenson Button For Its Extreme E Off-Road Series Debut

As the opening event of the debut, Extreme E season looms ever closer, the stakes around motorsport’s newest series couldn’t be higher. Between all-new race regulations, ambitious sustainability initiatives, and a star-studded driver lineup, suffice to say — there’s a lot to be watching for. And there’s still ample opportunity for last-minute developments.

Like Lotus Engineering’s announcement that it’ll be joining the fray, for instance. In an effort to flex its decade of experience developing the upcoming Evija electric hypercar, the storied British brand will be joining team JBXE Racing as a technical partner to provide the car you see before you. Manned by 2009 F1 World Champion Jenson Button and multiple Scandinavian Touring Car race winner Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsk, it’s set to make its opening drive in the Desert X Prix slated for April 3rd and 4th in AlUla, Saudi Arabia. It’s worth noting that while Lotus has won its fair share of Formula 1 titles, off-road racing is a different matter. In fact, its last effort — the Exige R-GT rally car — only made two starts before it was retired and shelved indefinitely. No pressure then, Lotus. Head to the link below for more.
