With an unprecedented 18 Dakar Rally wins since 2001, there’s no doubt that KTM builds some of the most capable adventure motorcycles on the planet, and for the 2021 model year, the Ready To Race outfit looks to maintain its stranglehold on the sector with the release of the all-new 890 ADVENTURE R & 890 ADVENTURE R RALLY.
Utilizing the 889cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin from the 890 Duke, the 890 ADV gets a new Chromoly trellis frame, a reinforced clutch, optional quick-shifter, a revised brake setup, improved traction control and ABS, cruise-control as standard, WP XPLOR suspension, and a 105hp and 74ft-lbs of torque power output. And while it shares the same engine and power ratings, KTM is also producing 700 examples of the competition-ready Rally-spec, that gains an Akrapovic exhaust, a straight race seat, quick-shifter as standard, a Rally fuel map, thinner, anodized DID DirtStar rims, rally foot-pegs, a carbon fiber tank protector, Pro-spec WP XPLOR suspension with an extra 1.2” of travel over the base model, and a set of transparent MotoGP-style aerodynamic winglets—all dressed up in a Red Bull KTM Factory Racing livery. Though pricing has yet to be announced, both models are scheduled to roll into dealerships around November of 2020.
