Dutch auto manufacturer Dunkervoort specializes in some of the most purpose-built performance machines in the industry. Created to celebrate its founder’s 70th birthday, the D8 GTO-JD70 platform pairs a lightweight carbon body with a 415hp 2.5-liter turbo engine to give it some serious supercar-slaying potential. And if that wasn’t enough — Dunkervoort then proceeded to optimize it for the track.
They’re calling it the D8 GTO-JD70 R, a designation that indicates its track-only legality. It features a number of upgrades that take the road car’s already-impressive performance to the next level. For instance, it gains a new Bosch M5 Clubsport anti-lock braking (ABS) system that delivers improved stopping performance with 12 levels of adjustment available based on the driver’s preferences and the track’s conditions. It also comes with an ultra-lightweight electronic power-steering system, a race-bred unit that enables snappy handling for consistently quick lap times. Finished off with a suspension setup some 20% stiffer than the standard car and built with 60% more carbon fiber for increased crash protection, it’s more stable and also safer. What results is a car that can lap the Spa-Francorchamps Grand Prix circuit a full three seconds faster than the 1,100hp Koenigsegg Regera. It’s available now from Dunkervoort for $235,000.
