BMW Bolsters The X5 & X6 SUVs With A 617HP V8 Competition Engine

As the automotive industry turns its eyes toward the innovation of road-ready SUVs, various manufacturers have made it a point to bring their flagship models in-line with consumers’ modern-day expectations. BMW’s newest X5 M and X6 M platforms are the latest vehicles to be thrust into the spotlight by the famed German car company, offering buyers enhanced horsepower figures, performance improvements, and revised aesthetics.

Surprisingly enough, the 2020 X5 M and X6 M are nearly identical under the hood. They both feature a powerful 4.4-liter M TwinPower Turbo V8 engine that’s capable of producing around 592-horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque, an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission, and a specialized Active M differential that keeps them in the same ballpark when it comes to acceleration. Each model will be able to hit its 62 mile-per-hour benchmark in around 3.9 seconds, ensuring that speed-savvy drivers will still be able to appease their inner enthusiast. To complement the vehicles’ top speeds, they’ve been outfitted with an adaptive suspension, active roll stabilization, and improved six-piston brakes to keep everything safe and secure. If the base model isn’t up to par with your expectations, BMW has also announced a Competition-spec upgrade package for each model, boosting both the X5 M and X6 M to around 617-horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque.
