For Porsche aficionados, few models are held in higher regard than the 356 that defined the brand from 1948-1965 — it’s the first car to bear the family name and the blueprint for nearly every Porsche that followed. And the most potent iteration of its day was the 356 Carrera GT powered by a 1,600-cubic centimeter racing engine with a four-speed transmission.

This 1959 Porsche 356 A Carrera 1600 GT was designed for drivers who wanted to spend time on the racetrack, or push the limits of speed and style on the Autobahn. The car maintains its original color combination finished in Rubinrot red with a black leatherette interior from when it left the production line in August 1959. It underwent its first restoration in 1985 before being sent to world-renowned Carrera engine experts Karl Hloch for a full engine rebuild in 2015. Since then, it’s been driven for less than 1,000 miles and remains in exceptional condition. One of only 31 examples, this well-documented 356 would be the centerpiece to any significant automotive collection. If you’re interested, you’ll have to reach out to Auxietre & Schmidt for pricing information.
