The Prefabricated Black Cabin Hiding Deep In A Brazilian Forest

With a number of architecture companies turning to prefabricated dwellings to supplement their business models, it’s no surprise to see the implementation of elaborate structures in some of the most remote parts of the world. Brazil’s MAPA firm has even created its own prefab branch, known as Minimod, to keep the influx of modular-minded clients satisfied. Now, the company has revealed an ambitious project in Brazil’s southern region they’re calling the Minimod Curucaca.

The minimalist structure sits in the country’s Curucaca Valley — a vast expanse of forested mountains in Brazil’s southernmost reach. After construction in a Sao Paulo-based factory nearly 600 miles away, the home was transported via shipping truck to the established location. Surrounded by Brazil’s dense forests, the Curucaca was erected, bringing with it a primitive interior, exterior, and grass-imbued roof. Large, length-running windows give denizens a panoramic view of their vast, tree-filled surroundings, while exposed timber boards, polished, cross-laminated timber, and rustic black appliances give the dwelling’s interior a lived-in feel. The compact layout of the Curucaca lends itself to two small bedrooms, each with their own bathing area and storage closet, and a similarly-sized central living area that offers seating, a dining area, a fireplace, and a bookshelf — providing the perfect recipe for a quiet, relaxing afternoon among the trees.
