The World Is On The Brink Of Total Anarchy In HBO’s ‘Watchmen’

It’s been a decade since Zack Snyder’s polarizing adaptation of Alan Moore’s moody, dystopian superhero graphic novel, Watchmen, hit theaters. But now, the property is getting a bold second chance on the small screen, courtesy of the Home Box Office and their series of the same name.

Originally, HBO’s Watchmen was said to be a prequel to Zack Snyder’s film, but this first look has quashed those rumors once and for all. This new show is not a prequel, sequel, or even a direct adaptation of the source material. Rather, it’s creator Damon Lindelof’s love letter to Alan Moore’s 1986 series — an all-original origin story that shows how the comic book world of Watchmen came to be. Starring some impressive names — including Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Don Johnson, Timothy Blake Nelson, and a slew of others — this tale of the darker side of superheroic vigilante justice looks as enigmatic as it does promising. And we can’t wait to see more.
