Half a century ago, Porsche unveiled a vehicle that would go on to become legendary in both the world of car racing and the larger automotive world itself. Now, to celebrate the monumental milestone, the German marque is unveiling this 917 concept study — a tribute to their very first Le Mans victory.

To be put on display at the Porsche Museum — alongside 13 other exhibits that include ten other remarkable 917 examples — this concept study was originally built to pay homage to Porsche’s 1970 Le Mans-winning endurance racer. It was shelved, however, when the brand was admitted to the LMP1 category of the FIA World Endurance Championship. Created by an elite group of designers and engineers, this is the first time the red-and-white beauty has ever been shown to the public. And it will be viewable right alongside the completely-restored original 1969 917 from the 14th of May until the 15th of September. That does mean, however, you’ll have to travel to Stuttgart, Germany if you want to see it in person.
