It’s not often that two renowned automotive designers collaborate to bring a fresh, unique platform to market. Oddly enough, that’s exactly what Italdesign head Giorgetto Giugiaro and his son, Fabrizio, have done with their latest vehicle — the Kangaroo Concept car.

The Italian design firm has unveiled a remarkable new SUV/Hypercar that will borrow heavily from the latter’s key design principals — allowing for variable height capabilities through the use of racing, road, and off-road configurations — giving life to the aptly-named “hyper-SUV.” An all-electric powertrain is employed to spring the car into action (much like the marsupial that it’s named after) and features a 240-horsepower electric motor at each axle, boosting the Kangaroo from 0-62 miles per hour in just 3.8 seconds. While a range of 280 miles comes thanks to the vehicle’s 90-kilowatt-hour battery, a substantially “coupe-like” interior with carbon-printed leather from Poltrona Frau, a supercar-influenced steering column, and console tablet interface show off the car’s generous attributes. Perhaps the most interesting part of the Kangaroo is the unison of the traditional Gullwing/Scissor entryways, utilizing lifting and sliding components to provide access to the vehicle’s enhanced interior.
