Nintendo Flex Game Boy Concept

With all the hype surrounding retro video gaming, we’ve seen a lot of old-school consoles get modern rereleases. And while that’s all well and good, we couldn’t help noticing nobody’s rereleased a handheld yet. YJ Yoon seems to have noticed that, as well, prompting the designer to mock up the Nintendo Flex Game Boy concept.

The original Game Boy, which came out in 1989, only barely qualifies as “handheld” thanks to its astounding bulkiness. But this concept slims down on it beautifully without losing the spirit of the device. And it manages that with a larger screen than its predecessor — marked by a slight curvature for a more panoramic experience. The Flex also reimagines the games themselves, turning them into something more akin to slim memory sticks than the larger cartridges used by its predecessor. A beautiful take on a classic gaming icon, we just hope Nintendo is taking notes.
