Black History Month celebrates the inspirational souls who gave African-Americans a reason to be proud and flourish. The Nike-sponsored bicycle share system BIKETOWN released a limited edition special wrap created by designer Marcellus Johnson to celebrate Black History Month.
The wrap design showcases an original collage inspired by traditional African images and artistic impressions, including a West African kente cloth pattern featured on the bike’s basket. Johnson drew from Pan-African culture and utilized images and techniques relative to the journey of Africans. There will only be five Black History Month BIKETOWN bikes available in Portland, so you’ll need to hustle over to Oregon if you want one. This project is the first of BIKETOWN’s year-long Culture Collection, which is a line of wraps that will be presented throughout the year shining the spotlight on the various cultures of Portland.
